Maya Our Baby Hedgehog

May 7, 2007 Today we bring home our new pet, Maya. She is a baby female hedgehog. She is called a salt & pepper by breeders and  we think she is just about the cutest pet we've ever had!

Maya lives in a big open cage. She doesn't need much, just a tube and a newspaper to hide in.

This is her cute face close up.

May 8th 2007 She fits in the palm of my hand.

She explores in the grass.

She lifts her nose to smell.

Here she comes!

June 5th 2007 We've had Maya about a month now, and she has gotten a little bigger but not much.

This is what she looks like when she curls up in a ball.

Now she is coming out of the ball.

She walks along the deck, see how short her legs are!

June 20th 2007 Maya gets a bath!

September 16th 2007 It's September now, we've had Maya for over 4 months, but now we have 4 new kittens! Stellaluna & Arista come over to see what Maya is about.

I show Maya to Arista, she liked her.

Both kittens are curious.

Maya doesn't get played with enough now that we have 6 cats.

We have had Maya for over 5 months now. Even though we love her so dearly, I decided to rehome her to a nice couple who doesn't have 2 horses, 6 cats, 4 rabbits, 2 fishtanks, a dog, a ferret, a chinchilla and a disabled mother to spend time with. Maya was sweet but I have to admitt I just didn't have enough time to spend with her as she deserved.  Although we did play with her enough for her to remain social and not curl up in a ball, I felt that she needed more.  I found her a nice couple who lived not too far from here who just wanted to spend time with her and only her.  It's was the last 2  kittens we rescued off the street that did us in. When it came time to spend with Maya, there was just none left.     But we were happy to know that she will have a new loving home with Nick. I

October 16th, 2007 We say goodbye to Maya.

Sasha will miss her.

Maya lived in Sasha's room.

Maya roams through our home grown pumpkins.

"Oh, I'm gonna miss her so much!"

"Goodbye my sweet little prickly love!"

She was a really cute pet!

I emailed Nick and he has reported that Maya has warmed up to him and has settled into her new home quite nicely and they are having alot of fun with her.  I'm glad she is happy and has found people to love her as much as we do, and have alot more time for her.  Good Luck Maya! We'll always miss you!
